Neko Nation returns to Sydney and it’s not just all about the action happening on the stage (more info on DJs + Performers).  We’ve got an amazing array of catboys, catgirls, attractions and free activities taking place outside of the stage.

Our catgirls and catboys come from a wide variety of backgrounds but all have a massive love of anime, video gaming, cosplay and Japanese culture and of course serving our guests with fabulous free sushi or candy.  They are absolutely wonderful hosts who will ensure that you’re being looked after and having an amazing night.

Away from the dance floor we’ve got an amazing array of attractions whether you want to game on, create or just chill and socialise we have a number of different activities to help you enjoy your night!

Free Sushi!

Neko Nation’s famous free sushi served by catgirls and also catboys will once again be taking place at this event, as usual make sure you get in early to get plenty of sushi while it’s fresh and plentiful.  Below you can find some details on some of our catgirls for the night!

Mellie has been one of Neko Nation Sydney’s long term catgirls.  With her partner in crime Rachel, they form the dynamic duo Insanis, pulling off spectacular outfits and stunning dance moves across Sydney’s clubs.  While she does like cats, goats are what float her boat.

More than just a talented cosplayer, MegaPollen has had a background of almost a decade of ballroom dancing and is comfortable both up on the stage and behind the sewing machine.  In her downtime she’s a massive gamer and loves Overwatch and Bravely Default.

A massive League of Legends fan, she’s taking a break from delivering pentakills on Summoners Rift to serving sushi at Neko Nation.  A massive fan of Re:Zero, as you’ll be able to spot her serving sushi in her Ram cosplay serving sushi with her Rem twin.

One of the most fun, quirk and upbeat people you’ll ever meet, she’s been at Neko Nation events ever since it’s beginning and is making her catgirl debut.  A massive lover of all things Full Metal Alchemist and Borderlands.

One of the few catgirls with the rare honour of having had experience both East and West (Perth). She’s a talented synthetic dread creator who makes amazing creations for both herself and others, a mega fan of all things League of Legends and Game of Thrones.

Lucy Lolita

 

Cosplayer, raver, pin-up model, catgirl and foster mum to numerous kittens.  By night she loves to dance the night away, while during the day, she’s studying ancient history, archaeology and museum practise.  Big fan of Rozen Maiden and God of War.

A legit real life catgirl both at Neko Nation and in her personal life.  One of Neko Nation’s J-Pop and K-Pop DJs in Perth and Adelaide and now set to catgirl in Sydney.  The only thing she loves more than a fluffy kitten, is a fluffy alpaca or alpacasso.

A very talented indivdual who is well known in the doof, rave and alt scene for her many talents.  Whether it’s go-go dancing, firetwirling, poi, acting, cosplaying, hair, makeup, costuming, she’s able to make magic happen.  A massive fan of Trigger animes, especially Kill La Kill.

Duchess Wildfire

 

A catgirl with more ears than you could imagine, she’s living the feline life 24/7.  A massive fan of Ghost in the Shell and Metal Gear Solid, she’s spending her spare time trying to complete her pokedex and is very excited to be making her Neko Nation catgirl debut.

Nyan is a kitten through and through. They mew, purr, pounce and nap! This adorable kitty will keep you entertained with their adorableness and butt twerking! Nyan is no stranger to Neko and as one of our veterans, this kitty is sure to make you meow with their delicious candy!

Kenaz

The mastermind behind Scavangers of the scarlett wastes, an epic DJ and firetwirler, this amazing cosplayer will be here to make sure you are happy.! Keep an eye on this one as they not only delight your ears with amazing tunes but also serve you delicious Candy!

Crayon

Crayon is a kitty in real life. They like to adapt to a hassle free environment and adores Korean culture. Having lived & travelled in other countries, this well-travelled kitten is set to entertain you with their adorable personality, a hint of sarcasm and a lovely smile! See this kitten in their habitat as they serve you delicious candy throughout the night!

Video Gaming Arena

We have a spectcular video game arena with 10 playable multiplayers games across a wide variety of videos games across various consoles.  Our latest additions are featured below.

Super Smash Brothers (WiiU)

A popular favourite amongst gamers at Neko, the latest Super Smash Bros has arrived.  Battle on your favourite arenas of the past with amazing new graphics plus new arenas, all your favourite characters are back with some awesome new ones, including DLC characters such as Cloud (FF7), Ryu (Street Fighter), Bayonetta and more!  Best of all, there’s a crazy new 8 player mode, so pickup a Gamecube controller and get brawling!

Pokken Tournament

Pokemon fans will have the opportunity to experience Pokemon’s new fighting based game.  Made by the team behind the successful Tekken franchise, the game allows you to pick numerous Pokemon for combat and support in numerous arenas.  Very simple to pick up and lots of fun, make sure you make a Pokestop here to battle other fellow trainers!

Free Stuff!

Throughout the night, you can get free sushi from catgirls, free candy from catboys and maybe some free glowsticks if you’re lucky.  However just before the dancefloor, get some free souvenirs from Neko while you can!

Kandi Making Station

In the rave scene making kandi is a beloved past time of many ravers.  For those unfamiliar with kandi making, it’s simple, you get a piece of string and thread together beads to make a bracelet, using a variety of different coloured beads including letter beads, you can personalise it based on your favourite colours, anime characters or even your Pokemon Go team!

Free Balloon Sculptures

Georgie Loons is one of Australia’s best balloon sculpurist and easily the best in the anime, gaming and pop culture scene having recently made a lifesize Koro-Sensei as seen at Sydney Supanova!  Georgie Loons will be working near the start of the night but make sure you get in early to guarantee getting some awesome balloon scultptures made up, especially since they can light up too!

Little Raven Photobooth

Dressed to impress, then be sure to stop by the Little Raven Photobooth, throughout the night you can either pose solo or with friends in a brightly well lit area to show off your amazing outfits, be sure to add Little Raven Photography on Facebook to see your photos as soon as they are released!

Neko Safety Squad

Every Neko Nation attendee has a right to have lots of fun in a safe and secure environment. To ensure that we commit fully to these beliefs on top of our venue security we also will have the Neko Safety Squad, a team dedicated to maintaining a peaceful, fun, safe environment for all.

The Neko Safety Squad will enforce a strong zero tolerance policy towards any kind of harassment.  Regards of your race, gender, sexual preference or disability, everyone should be allowed to enjoy the event without fear of any harassment.

The team will take a strong stance on anyone taking actions on any unwanted behaviour.  This can include making any unwanted advances or taking photos of other guests without permission, it never hurts to ask for permission when taking photos!

Above all, it’s all about being respectful, kind and fun to one another, the safety squad will be taking a much more personal and understanding towards our guest than venue security who are more specialised in providing a physical presence.

The Neko Safety Squad is lead by Herbie the manager of Neko Nation Sydney who is security by moonlight and making outfits by daylight.  Being a professionally qualified security guard plus incredibly experienced and understanding in the cosplay scene makes him incredibly experience to lead and also educate his team to ensure that Neko Nation Sydney is a safe, fun, awesome environment for everyone!

Getting There

BY BUS

For stops on Parramatta Rd (closest to the Quadrangle) catch buses on routes 412, 413, 435, 436, 437, 438, 440, 461, 480 from George St or Railway Square.

For stops on City Rd (closest to Darlington campus) catch buses on routes 422, 423, 426, 428 from Castlereagh St or Railway Square.

 

BY TRAIN

Get off at Redfern Station and walk for about ten minutes to Manning Bar. You can also get off at Central Station and take a bus.

BY CAR

From Broadway heading west along Parramatta Rd, take the first left after the big intersection and parkland on the left up University Rd. Veer left around the main Quadrangle, which is on your right, and the Library on the left. Go straight then turn right onto Manning Rd, and follow down to Manning on the left.

 

PARKING

Several parking stations on campus are within walking distance of Manning Bar. Parking costs $6 after 3pm. Please don’t drink and drive.

DISABLED ACCESS

Manning House has lifts, hydraulic wheelchair ramps, wide doorways, access ramps and disabled bathrooms on every floor.

Manning Bar also has a Hearing Loop so hearing-impaired guests can tune their hearing aids to the local frequency for better amplification.

FAQ’s

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
Neko Nation is an 18+ event. Neko Nation takes place in a licensed venue, according to the liquor licensing act, only the following current (not expired) ID is acceptable
– Proof of Age Card
– Australian Driver’s License
– Passport (Any nationality)
Student cards, bank cards and mecha licences are not acceptable by law, sorry even teenagers can pilot mecha.

Are there door tickets?
Yes, there will be, if you are unable to buy tickets beforehand please get to the event early. A sellout is unlikely but there’s a possibility, please get in early to guarantee entry as a number of Neko Nation events in other cities have sold out this year.

What is the dress code for Neko Nation?
Cosplay is highly encouraged! We encourage cosplay, alternative and unique outfits for you to dress to impress for your chance to win prizes! We are very open minded with our dress policy, although please cover up all your appropriate parts and wear enclosed footwear.

What is the weapons and props policy for Neko Nation?
Weapons are highly discouraged at our events, unless made out of weaker materials (foam, cardboard) and look non threatening, (guns and swords are generally a no-go, compared to staffs and wands). Our policy is similar to many cosplay conventions although we tend to be a bit stricter, due to the darker environment, people dancing and alcohol. Security has the final say in regards to props and weapons.

Is there a cloak room on site?
Yes, Manning Bar will providing a cloak room for $5.

Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?
Via the Facebook event page or website. Please note, we will not answer any questions within 48 hours of the event due to production work.
