Ladybeard Australian Tour
Adelaide-born cross-dressing sensation Ladybeard (Rick Magarey) is touring Australia for the first time in January 2018.
Ladybeard is a super-cute force of destruction who has taken Japan, and the world, by storm. Pro-wrestler, actor, voice actor, stuntman, heavy metal screamer, J-pop singer and speaker of five languages (English, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese and German), Ladybeard is an international idol and global sensation unlike any other.
Magarey’s glistening 10-year career as a bearded man in a dress has taken him from Hong Kong to Japan and everywhere in between.
His 2014 hit ‘Nippon Manju’ with outfit Ladybaby tallied 10 million YouTube views in just 4 months, and he now fronts a kawaii(cute)-core idol group known as Deadlift Lolita.
Ladybeard will appear at Falls Festival Lorne on New Year’s Eve, before launching into a 5-city tour with highly anticipated Australian-made documentary Big in Japan from January 3-11.
The Big in Japan Oz Tour, presented by Supanova comic con, visits Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. It includes 6 Q&A screenings and 3 Ladybeard live performances.
Highlights include two Ladybeard ‘homecoming’ parties in Melbourne and Sydney, and a live gig in his hometown of Adelaide, co-presented by ARMI (Australian Rock & Metal Institute), the rock school which Magarey once graduated from.
Punters can expect to see Ladybeard’s iconic high-energy renditions of Jpop songs, characterised by his hilarious juxtaposition of cutesy song-and-dance and heavy-metal tantrums. There will also be plenty of surprises throughout the tour, with wrestling and even neon-nunchucks routines thrown into the mix.
Big in Japan, a four-years-in-the-making feature documentary by Melbourne’s Walking Fish Productions, explores the nature of fame and the phenomenon of foreign celebrity in Japan. Magarey (Ladybeard) is one of three foreign stars (including Canadian aspiring Jpop singer Kelsey Parnigoni and American TV star Bob Sapp) who appear in the film.
